Quark 7.3/4.1

I have been using a Dell XPS420 for a number of years, running Quark 7.3 as an upgrade to an old 4.1 version. The OS has been Vista Ultimate. As older computers go, repairs and new parts were necessary over the last year because of system "hiccups" but eventually the Dell was unable to reliably run 7.3 without seizing. (I suspect a motherboard problem.) As we do long documents or books with Quark, I could no longer risk working on the old PC. In fact, 7.3 has not opened properly in two months. Now with a new book ready to start, I bought a new Maingear Vybe running Windows 7 Professional. I migrated programs from the Dell to the Maingear using Laplink's PC Mover, including Quark--albeit somewhat unsuccessfully as some programs, Quark 7.3 and Photoshop CS5, as examples, would not open on the new computer. I reinstalled Photoshop CS5 and had it up and running in less than 10 minutes. No so with Quark. All I get is the start-up graphic window and the progress cursor just sits and "spins." I reinstalled 7.3 to no avail. Even old 4.1 won't work which may be due to the Windows 7 OS. I was going to upgrade to QuarkXPress 9.5 anyway but if I can't get 7.3 to open, I am skeptical 9.5 would load successfully and I'd be stuck with a $350 upgrade that doesn't work.

Any ideas or thoughts?
