activation corrupted, won't reinstall

Suddenly on launching Quark 8 onto my Mac I got the message "The activation file for this copy has been corrupted. You will need to reinstall this copy." When I attempted to install, it said "A valid copy of the ap is already installed on this system. To update click Customize button and navigate to existing installation in the Location tab. To install a complete instance of the ap using the existing location info, choose a folder location that does not contain an installation of Q." Because of this problem files would open but I couldn't save. So no changing of existing files or saving new ones. I tried reinstalling by moving the existing Quark folder onto the desktop so the ap qould install in the Applications folder. No change. I tried reinstalling by leaving the folder on the desktop and following the instructions. When I clicked on locations I found three listed: other, HD, and Applications. So I clicked on Other and navigated to a folder called Documents. I installed there. When I looked for the file after the Installation Successful window, it wasn't in the Documents folder. It was back in the Applications folder and it still opened with the same warning. What do I do to successfully reinstall QuarkXPress8?
